… and the power of styling a bed

To be honest, the most asked question I receive on any of my social media channels (@interiorbygini) is probably: “Where did you get your bedding from?”. And when I first linked my bedding in my Instagram stories, the product was sold out after I don’t know … 2 hours?

Might be a coincidence but who knows 😉

Anyways, I never expected that a bed would be the reason I’d go viral on social media. And I definitely didn’t expect to go viral with it multiple times!

When I first got the bedding, I fell in love with it straight away and it’s still my go-to product as it is super soft, flattering and also has the perfect color (in my opinion). However, if off-white is not your cup of tea, the bedding is now sold in multiple different colors.

But before I get to where you can purchase my bedding, I’d like to answer another question I get asked a lot, which is highly related to my bedding. Even though some bedding really gives me the ick and seems to just look horrible, I’ve learned that pretty much any bedding can look nice when styled/decorated properly. Of course, I definitely wouldn’t purchase bedding I don’t like the design of, however, a bed can look nice when you put in some effort. Always.

The Power Of Styling A Bed

I highly believe that I would have never gone viral if I wouldn’t have styled the bed in my posts. So another question I often receive is about how I style a bed, which tips and tricks I have and where I’ve learned that.

The answer to that is: through my mum. My parents used to own something similar to a hotel in the Bavarian Alps, where it is important to welcome the guests with a nicely made bed. Of course, I also helped out preparing the rooms and therefore learned a few tips and tricks on how to make a bed look nice. While typing this, I actually realize that I should do a reel/TikTok on that as it is difficult to explain.

Don’t believe me when I say styling a bed is important? Let me convince you with the photos below (same bed, just the headboard was missing in the first photo).

I think the photos above speak for themselves. Can you see the difference proportions, colors and decoration makes?

Anyways, I can just really recommend that you learn a few techniques on how to make a bed and invest in good inlays if you want to have that “hotel” fluffy feeling. If you have very flat, cheap inlays, you will never ever be able to make a bed look as comfortable and fluffy as if you use high quality materials (such as down and feathers), play with different textures and heights. Don’t let yourself be fooled! For example, I layer multiple blankets to create this super soft and elegant look! It doesn’t just happen by accident. Like nothing…

My 5 Top Tips For Styling A Bed (Links After!!)

Although it really depends on the bedding and setting, these are my top tips for styling a bed:

  1. Work with different textures and materials (e.g. musselin, linen, cotton, wool etc.)
  2. Layer!! For example, I usually have 2 single duvets (140x200cm) next to each other and then one large, thick one across both (220x240cm)
  3. Play with color or color nuances (for a very cozy look, I like to choose a color palette and combine different colors from it to make a soft look that blends in)
  4. Don’t be shy to decorate! Use candles (make sure they are in a safe distance!!), books, pillows, plaids, trays etc. Sometimes, less is more when styling a bed (as you can see below. To some, it looks impractical but for me, it makes the room extremely cozy)
  5. Use that damn bed cover!! I am the biggest fan of day throws that mainly cover the bedding you sleep in. With day throws, you can create different feelings and looks all while keeping your bed private. Furthermore, it also just looks super clean in my opinion.
Loved styling this setting for JOOP! Living. As you can see, I plaid with different decor pieces and different textures!
