An insight into the new Sonetto tableware collection from Rosenthal

Anyone who’s somewhat interested in luxurious tableware and porcelain will come across Rosenthal at some point in their life. For me, that point has been years ago, when I accidentally saw my grandma has a beautiful, classy tableware collection from Rosenthal (I believe it’s the Sanssouci collection). We were looking through her porcelain after my grandpa had passed away and she told me all the beautiful stories to them. The gorgeous porcelain with a gold trim and roses has always caught my eye. I have to admit that my family never spent money on tableware (at least it’s never been a thing in my family!), so seeing Rosenthal in my grandma’s home was surprising and fascinating all at once. She received it as a wedding gift– a true treasure which also shows how meaningful luxurious porcelain can be. Ever since, she has carefully stored it in her shelves, enjoys the beautiful look of it every day and took great care of the precious material.

As a German, I’ve always somewhat known Rosenthal. I feel like it’s kind of part of my German identity to know the amazing porcelain makers we have, but since becoming an interior designer, it has gained a whole new meaning. Getting to know the benefits of high quality products, particularly in the porcelain industry, have made me appreciate the gorgeous craftsmanship even more, as well as the quality differences you’ll enjoy from high quality porcelain will leave you baffled. During my work as an interior designer, I have used Rosenthal products together with my clients and in my own home too and simply loved every bit of it. Last year, when I properly started working together with Rosenthal, a dream came true: welcoming some of their iconic vases into my home has truly been special to me. Showing them to my grandma when she visited is a core memory I will treasure forever!

However, never in a million years did I think I’d own a whole Rosenthal tableware set myself. Vases, sure. But a WHOLE tableware collection??? After seeing the exclusive preview of the new collection from Rosenthal, which is called Sonetto, I knew I wanted to have it– not only for my clients but also for myself! Sonetto is a unique collection, where flowers are the main character. Interpreted in a modern way but keeping traditional characteristics makes it the ideal product matching the brand identity from Rosenthal. Elegant and classy but still bold and cool. What particularly caught my eye were the details that literally stand out of the plates: while some of the plates have a slight shape of a flowerhead, others have details which rise up into the air, making the plates extremely unique (like this one here!)

One thing I always find difficult with tableware is that often, there are too little designs. When wanting a complete set of plates, bowls, glasses, and mugs, I often only find a limited availability of plate and bowl sizes, as well as sometimes there are not even glasses or mugs to match the set. When looking at the Sonetto collection, I was beyond excited to see SO many different shapes, sizes and designs! Finally something where I could really play around with all the different looks. I ordered a bunch of different looks, sizes, and shapes and love that I can use the collection both for casual events but also for fine dining (like the Gourmet plate, or the first course/dessert plate, but also casual plates like this perfect breakfast plate). Nothing better than having one tableware which can be used for ANY occasion.

Additionally, my job as an interior designer has taught me to connect good design AND functionality. One of the main parts of my work is to make the lives of my clients easier. My tips, the products I recommend, and the designs I create follow the goal to combine both aesthetics but also practicality. When it comes to tableware, I try to pick out designs that are high quality and will last a lifetime, as well as are easy to use in the everyday life, like being dishwasher safe! (Spoiler: my Sonetto tableware is dishwasher proof). The timeless and elegant design, as well as the practicality make this collection perfect for private and commercial spaces. Restaurants, hotels, and event locations: take notes!

If you’re on the hunt for a little twist in the otherwise so clean and classic design, the Sonetto collection is also available in different designs. For reference: I picked the “Bianco” series in a shiny surface. However, it is also available in matt surfaces, with a gold trim, as well as it can be complemented with stoneware items. You can take a look at all different finishes and designs here. Which one is your favorite? Hard to pick, hey? While I am currently using my Sonetto Bianco collection in my apartment in Vienna (which is the perfect city for this elegant, luxurious tableware), I am already imagining myself using it on my terrace at my house at Lake Como in Italy. Another box ticked: a tableware that is so versatile, it works in any setting, at any location, and in any interior design style. Safe to say this will become my most-used tableware collection.

One thing I nearly forgot to mention is that the Sonetto collection also have glasses! You heard that right, matching glasses to the plates!!! How cool is that?! From water glasses to wine glasses, your Sonetto set is perfectly completed by the unique shapes of these crystal beauties. Flowery shapes make them stand out while perfectly contemplating the plates. They are fancy yet subtle and impress while not taking up too much attention. Trust me, glasses are a whole different story and SO hard to pick, so if you’re looking for a full set, this is your collection.

If you’ve made it all the way to here, you know how this blogpost will end: safe to say, I have used the plates, bowls, mugs, and glasses in many different settings and occasions. For tea, dinner, a breakfast in bed or a chilled afternoon snack. With its different sizes and designs, any occasion will become special. And no, I am definitely NOT saying this because I am working together with Rosenthal, it is because I am truly fascinated and in love with the design and quality. Truly.

The Most Beautiful Summer Tableware On Earth

While my little Italian barn is far from ready, I just couldn't resist of already getting some beautiful interior design pieces for once it's finished. I can only imagine my life there, sitting on the terrace, overlooking the lake, eating Italian food, and enjoying life. There's still a long journey and even more work ahead, but hey, this tableware lifts my mood so much, AND makes sure to keep me motivated.

I Bought The Most Beautiful House In Italy!

In August 2024, I finally decided it's time for change. Time for a new beginning, time for a new project, and time for a new challenge. While I wouldn't say it was a rushed decision, we did decide quickly which direction we'd wanted to head towards, which was a house to renovate, surrounded by nature, in Northern Italy. I wanted to be close to water, he wanted to be close to the mountains, and anyone who's been to Lake Como knows it combines both. The perfect place to be.
