For any space, color scheme, or gender
Ohhh, how much I love designing kid’s rooms! They can be such a beautiful, inspiring place where kids can truly unfold, play, and be themselves. With the knowledge we have about the effects colors and materials have on the human body, including changing the rhythm of the pulse or blood pressure, we should use this and create an oasis for kids, which calms their soul without stopping their endless creativity.
I am a true believer of creating kids rooms according to their needs, even if it might be costly AND they will eventually grow out of it. However, I have to say that you’ll have to renovate at some point. And usually the perfect timing to renovate your kids room(s) are when they become teenagers. So you might as well design a room that suits kids instead of having a room that might be “timeless”.
Which options are there to design children’s rooms?
It doesn’t matter which gender you are designing the kid’s room for, or if you prefer to keep the space more neutral. There are a bunch of things you can include in order to make your children’s room perfect. My favorite items for that are:
- Wallpaper, ideally even on the ceiling
- Accent ceiling, if possible!
- Nice colors but not too bright ones
- Tent, to make the space cozy and to create a cave-like feeling
- Rugs: always a must! Kid’s play on the ground so much, so make it comfortable
- Cute items such as lamps or hooks in nice motives
It doesn’t matter if you have a large room, a small room, an attic space, a shared room with multiple kids or a dark room. With the right interior design, you can enhance any room and create a fairytale space for them. Let’s look at 37 great examples of beautiful children’s rooms to keep in mind for inspiration:
22 Inspirational Kid’s Rooms
Circus tent over a bed with bold colors
This gorgeous design is screaming creativity and fun. With the stuffed animals and gentle materials, this space is truly gorgeous without being too childish.

2. Dreamy bedroom with a vintage twist
I told you I love wallpaper, and this is a great example of how this kid’s room was turned into a stunning and inspiring space. Paired with a little tent and some nice, patterned fabrics, this room is really tied together.

3. Vibrant space with colorful items
This stunning kids room even spreads across to levels, with a cute staircase leading up to another part. A mix of gentle and stronger colors tie the space together, playing with stronger contrasts in the textiles such as blue, yellow, and red. The calming wall colors, however, bring in a sense of calmness, while the glimpse of blue wallpaper in the second floor is inviting and interesting. Note: perfect addition in this space is the runner on the stairs AND the fantastic roof windows. These items change everything! Another thing I really love is how well the colors were coordinated. By using red as the trim of the runner and in the wall shelf, it really coordinates well and ties the room together, without being too much of a contrast.

4. Swinging under a circus tent – a kid’s dream
This room is absolutely stunning and has included so many amazing items. The first ting that really shows is the stunningly painted ceiling, which is actually an attic space. Making the most of the shape and height, the ceiling was painted in what looks like a circus tent, a current trend. However, that’s not all! A swing in the room makes it even more special. With these elements included, there doesn’t need to be much else going on, as we can see, the walls are kept in a gentle color only. Perfect place any kid would love!

5. Cuteness overload with a real life looking wallpaper and soft materials
This space is truly gorgeous, including a wallpaper with a motive that actually looks like it’s a real-life plant! Soft materials such a rug, wavy curtains, and valances on the chair make the space super comfy. Another item we can spot is the floor lamp, which has nice details on its stand, already bringing in more uniqueness.

6. Wallpaper and contrasting skirtings, window frame, and ceiling
Can you identify what makes this room so satisfying looking at it? Well, the wallpaper which has a contrasting ground color however matches with the contrasting blue/purple color used on the floor skirtings, the ceiling, and window frames, which ties the space together and brings a sense of calmness into the otherwise fancy wallpaper. Additionally, darker tones on the furniture and a structured open shelf makes the space calm yet exciting. A great example for a kids room!

7. Nursery for dreamers
Another great example where the ceiling has been used as a circus tent, while hot air balloons in matching colors, and a gorgeous wallpaper bring in so much movement and excitingness. Even though there hasn’t been too much color used, the space just looks absolutely cute! The little bed with the tent hanging over it is just the absolute cherry on the top!

8. An eclectic space with green as a base color
Gorgeous space that seems to bring nature inside. Green is the main color, combined with yellow and rosé tones. The wallpaper is a lovely addition to the stripes and patterns used, making the space cozy and special.

9. Light-blue dream with a stunning wallpaper
Do you see the cute ceiling with the wallpaper? How gorgeous is that when going to bed at night and looking up. The perfect kids room for those who want it cute and neat but without too much sensory overload.

10. Wallpaper, color, and the cutest trim
Ok, this might be one of my all time faves! How perfect is the baby-blue door and door frame paired with the bubble-trim above? And how perfect does this super cute floral wallpaper match and blend in? Love this very creative approach!

11. A room between kid and teenager
Love this room design, as it is suitable for kids but also for teenagers. The headboard is adding so much depth and character, while the curtains matching the blinds just make the space perfectly tied together. The floating hot hair balloons blending in with the wall color just add that unique touch.

12. A moody and grounded kid’s room
Beautiful use of color, pattern, and shapes. I love that the curved ceiling is painted, and the walls have the striped wallpaper, bringing in something unique and special. The little tent with the pillows just makes you want to lie down, while the greenly painted floor skirtings, matching the ceiling ground the full space.

13. Sunshine at home
Ohhh, doesn’t this room just always feel like sunshine? I love the different patterns used here, the accent ceiling skirting and the door frames. So simple and so pretty!

14. A cave-like bed storage
This gorgeous room is screaming perfect planning and making use of the existing space. The bed is put hire in a cave-like setting, accessible through a small staircase with storage, while it can be darkened and hidden with curtains. The drawers underneath leave plenty of space for storage, which can be easily accessed by the child alone. Gorgeous!

15. Straight from a fairytale
This shared kid’s room literally looks like it’s straight from a move. So much going on, on the gorgeous wallpaper, with animals, dreamy spaces, and beautiful colors. It really screams the sky is not the limit!

16. Simple room brought to life with a few easy hacks
Wow, now that’s a gorgeous room! However, this is actually quite easy. The cloud wallpaper added to the ceiling and walls makes it look like you’re sleeping under the sky, and all the floating hot air balloons bring in color and depth. I absolutely love this simple design, kept mostly in neutral ground colors.

17. Circus at home
Now that’s a literal circus at home! The bed is under a literal circus tent, and the ceiling is painted to even enhance that. Look how it has the effect as if it goes up even higher? Great artistic eye there! Large stuffed animals make the room feel even more like it’s a life-like circus, and even the curtains and furniture is all chosen to match the circus vibe. I love this! You can really see the thought behind it and going all-in. Very brave that definitely pays off!

18. Above the clouds
I feel like this room always looks like it’s from a gorgeous Disney movie. The cloud wallpaper, the gentle cotton-candy colors, the doll-house and the balloons on the wall make this so unique and beautiful.

19. High contrasting colors in the spirit of a circus
Another cute example of using a circus tent on the ceiling. While this one is in accent colors, the rest is kept quite in one color: yellow. I love that the red has been brought in to add a third color (if you know, you know: the rule of thirds), making this space really stunning.

20. A bed looking like a window
I love this! The yellow, the cave-like bed, the curtain, and then the stunning wallpaper making the bed look like it’s located at a window. Beautiful to dream where life will take you!

21. Eclectic and full of energy
What a space! Red and orange is known for its stimulating effects, and this room definitely feels super exiting and special. Paired with the fancy rug and nice elements at the bed, this room is something extremely special but also quite rich in its colors.

22. Antique and vintage flair with neutrals
As a contrast to the previous example, this stunning kids room combines vintage elements such as this stunning wardrobe and sideboard with cute toys. Overall kept in a more neutral color scheme, this is just as a nice space as the above, just totally different!
