Studio Keen x Wall Mouldings from Noel & Marquet
It’s the beginning of March 2023, we’re currently in the city celebrating my birthday when receiving a phone call from a well-known real estate company in Vienna, with whom we were in touch for the last couple of months. Turns out, we were only a few minutes away from their latest project and were spontaneously invited to check it out.
The apartment, located in one of Vienna’s finest neighbourhoods, was quite run down but had so, SO much potential. Original Viennese herringbone floors, double doors, high ceilings and beautiful windows, some of them even colourful, matching the church the apartment is looking onto. Additionally, the flat has over 140m2 with three large rooms all connected to one another, making the flat a representative location.
But again, the premises were quite run down (as you can see in the before photos below). Ugly walls, even uglier radiators and pipes, lamps, horrible colour schemes. In order for interested buyers to recognise the beauty that lies within this apartment, we were asked to transform the flat into a cosy, liveable place – a home. Sounds easy, right? Especially when this is your daily job as an interior designer. However, this project was different because we were given two weeks (!!). To do everything.
How the apartment looked when we first visited it.
Lots of potential but even more work to bring our vision to reality …
We were officially commissioned on a Saturday and had to spend the first few days planning, working out a concept with products that were available and deliverable within under a week, as well as activating our strong network of the best partner brands, as well as coordinating the works of different craftsmen like painters, installers and so on.
The vision we had for this project – which we called „Deux Cheminées“ („Two-Fireplaces“)— included restoring the representative character of the premises. In order to do so, we knew from the begging on that we wanted to add lots and lots of wall mouldings. But where could we get such a crazy amount of material in this short period of time?
We called our contact at Noel & Marquet, who is our partner brand for anything related to wall mouldings, on the Monday right after we were commissioned with the project. We shared our visions and the tight time frame. The project seemed impossible given that Noel & Marquet produces in Belgium and we would have needed the products by Wednesday/Thursday (so 2-3 days after our first phone call) in order for our painters and plasterers to finish on time.
Having someone mobilise their whole team for you is something that will forever give us goosebumps – and that’s exactly what Noel & Marquet did. Within a few hours we had everything sorted out and organised: from specific products, exact product amounts, to express shipping options and our collaboration contract.
To sum things up: 350kg and over 600 metres of wall mouldings arrived on time a few days after our initial phone call with Noel & Marquet, and our visions were slowly turning into reality…
The day of its arrival: 600m and 350kg of wall mouldings from NOËL & MARQUET.

Before the wall mouldings arrived, we had planned the exact position and measurement of each wall moulding for every room, briefed our painters and plasterers and had them start the second the products from Noel & Marquet arrived. Despite the walls still having their previous wall colours when the wall mouldings got installed, we could already see how beautiful the results would be, proving once again that wall mouldings continue to stay one of our favourite ways to elevate and transform spaces.
And what can we say? Two days later, the wall mouldings including wall skirtings, and some ceiling rosettes were up, the walls were painted, and we were ready to furnish, leaving us plenty of time to finish the project on time! What an achievement!
Trust the process …
You probably think we’re crazy if you knew the amount of times we simply stood in the middle of the rooms, staring at the finished wall mouldings, knowing the project would turn out exactly how we imagined it to be. And it did! How do you like the results and before-and-after photos? Would you have expected the walls to make such a difference to the feeling of the rooms?
